Inside Rezee - chat that knows what you're talking about (Discuss & Document)

The thinking behind Rezee's Discuss & Document layer - channels and threads beside the work, PR and issue unfurls that stay live, and one search across chat, docs, code, and issues.

Rezee is one workspace for everything a team ships, organized as five layers. This post covers Discuss & Document - team chat and shared knowledge - and the conviction behind it: engineering conversation is always about something, and chat that can't see that something is where context goes to die.

Why build chat into a development platform?

Because the alternative is the Slack problem: the discussion that shaped a decision lives in a scrollback nobody can find, pasted links unfurl stale snapshots, and the conversation about the work is permanently divorced from the work. General-purpose chat is superb at being general-purpose - we said so plainly in Rezee vs Notion + Slack - but an engineering team's chat has one job general tools can't do: stay attached to the code, issues, and specs it discusses.

What's actually in the layer?

Channels by team or topic. The familiar shape - public channels, private ones for the conversations that shouldn't be workspace-wide - organized around how the team actually divides work. A private channel is invisible to everyone outside it, search included.

DMs and threaded replies. Direct messages, and threads that keep side-conversations from derailing channels. Chat hygiene by structure, not by scolding.

Rich unfurls that stay live. The defining feature: mention a PR, issue, commit, or doc, and it unfurls with status that keeps updating as the work moves. The chat message from Tuesday shows today's truth - a small thing that removes an entire category of "wait, is this merged yet?" tab-checking.

The same editor as everywhere else. Notes and docs in chat use the same block-based editor as Ideate & Design - so a conversation that turns out to matter can be promoted to a document without rewriting, and knowledge stops rotting in scrollback.

One search across everything. Chat, docs, comments, code, issues - one index, one search, from anywhere. The answer to "where did we discuss this?" stops depending on remembering which tool the discussion happened in.

How does it connect to the other layers?

It's the connective tissue: work from every layer unfurls here, decisions made here link back to the specs and issues they affect, and agents participate like teammates - reporting progress in threads, answerable by mention. Delegation by @-mention in a channel is the smallest possible interface to putting an agent to work.

FAQ

What is Rezee's Discuss & Document layer?

The conversation and knowledge layer of the Rezee workspace: channels, threads, and DMs beside the code and issues, live-updating unfurls of PRs and issues, and full-text search across chat and docs together with the rest of the workspace.

Does Rezee chat replace Slack?

For a software team's work conversation, that's the intent. For company-wide chat and external connections with customers or partners, Slack's network is real - many teams run both during transition, as we discuss in the comparison.

Can chat messages become documentation?

Yes - notes share the document editor, so a thread's conclusion can be promoted into a proper doc with structure, ownership, and comments, rather than being re-typed. Where the conversation was matters less when search covers both.
